Frequently asked questions
Is overtime 1.5× everywhere in the US?
Federal law requires 1.5× after 40 hours/week for non-exempt workers. Some states (e.g., California daily overtime, Colorado 1.5× after 12 hrs/day) are more generous.
Does overtime affect my tax bracket?
Overtime is taxed as ordinary wages — a big OT year can push marginal withholding up, but the 1.5× premium is never "all taxed away".
